Explore one of the 21 Biodiversity Hotspots in the world at Kanneliya Rainforest. In 2004, UNESCO recognized this forest complex as a biosphere reserve. Kanneliya is the largest remaining rainforest in Sri Lanka. Today, this reserve is among the most sought-after destinations. The area features a series of hills and valleys that rise from 60 meters to 425 meters above sea level, covering about 5306 hectares. It serves as a catchment area for several rivers and streams, including the Gin Ganga and Nilwala Ganga, which originate in the forest and flow toward the west and east, respectively.
The rainforest is home to a wide variety of plants and animals. Visitors may encounter monkeys, snakes, chameleons, numerous bird species, as well as a diverse assortment of tropical trees, plants, flowers, and a stunning waterfall.
You will be picked up from your hotel. First, you will join the Tours team and then head to Kanneliya, which is about 50 km away from Galle city. At the main gate of Kanneliya Forest, you will meet your wildlife guide, who will lead you through the forest while pointing out any animals you might see. The forest is home to a wide variety of plants and animals. You may encounter monkeys, snakes, chameleons, a large number of birds, and a broad array of tropical plants, trees, and flowers, as well as a stunning waterfall. You also have the chance to swim and enjoy a natural bath. During your visit, you will receive bottled water and lunch, which can be enjoyed in the forest with lovely views.
