Independence Square

Independence Square is one of the most beautiful spots in Colombo. The Independence Memorial Hall, located in Independence Square at Colombo 7, was built to celebrate Sri Lanka’s independence from British rule in 1948. In the past, this area was known as Torrington Square. The hall marks the site where the formal ceremony for self-rule took place, with HRH Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester, opening the first parliament on February 4, 1948.

Colombo Lotus Tower

The Colombo Lotus Tower, standing at 350 meters tall, is a famous landmark in Colombo, Sri Lanka. It is a symbol of the country.

Galle Face Green

Galle Face Green is a popular spot for families, kids, couples, and picnickers. Although the sun can be really hot and the crows can be annoying, it’s still a lovely place to relax and enjoy the beach. This urban park covers 5 hectares and stretches for 500 meters along the coast, right in the center of Colombo, which is the financial and business hub of Sri Lanka.

Jami Ul-Alfar Mosque

Colombo Commonly called the Red Mosque, the Jami Ul-Alfar Mosque is found in the busy area of Pettah. Surrounded by other buildings on two sides, it stands tall with its eye-catching red and white stripes. This mosque was constructed in 1908 to meet the increasing demand for a large space for prayer and reflection. At that time, it had about two floors, supported by four huge teak columns that reached through the lower levels. However, since renovations have taken place, some locals are not very willing to share details about its history.

Colombo Fort Railway Station

Enter the vibrant scene of this major train station, where nine platforms connect passengers to various destinations in the area. Located in the center of Colombo, this station was built and started operating in 1908.
